Last month SnapChat made itself accessible for blind people, almost. I say almost because there are 3 buttons at the bottom of the screen that are not labelled. I commend Snapchat for doing this. But let’s skip back a bit.

A while back I posted on http://www.anchor.fm asking what Snapchat was. I first heard of it a few years ago on a bus trip between Gisborne and Auckland. Somebody wanted to add me on it.

Now, SnapChat has rebranded itself and come out with Spectacles — those eccentric glasses which can film the world from your eyes. There has been enough written about them and what they do so I won’t rehash it here. But….

I want to talk about the accessibility of the glasses. There are already apps for blind people which “help them see”. There is Tap Tap See, Be My Eyes etc. But these Spectacles could really revolutionise the getting help factor and be really useful for blind people.

I think the recently launched Instagram Stories is more useful for photo-sharing but snapchat is rather cool!
